One secure path: start at
One secure path: start at trezor.io/start
The first rule of hardware wallet safety is simple: begin from the official start page at trezor.io/start
.
That landing page guarantees authentic downloads and guided firmware checks, reducing the chance you follow a malicious clone or a phishing link.
This page explains what happens next and why each step protects your funds.
What you’ll do in this setup
Briefly: connect the device, install Trezor Suite, set a PIN, write down the recovery seed, optionally add a passphrase, and verify a small test transfer. Every confirmation you make should be visible on the device screen itself — never type your seed into a computer or share it with anyone.
Step-by-step guide
- Connect & verify. Plug your Trezor into a computer you trust. Follow prompts on the device and the Suite. If firmware is required, the official flow will guide you through a secure update.
- Install Trezor Suite. Suite is your management app for accounts and transactions. Download it only through the official start page to avoid fake installers.
- Create a PIN. The PIN protects quick access to the device. Choose something memorable but non-obvious. Re-enter to confirm.
- Record the recovery seed. Write down the displayed words in order; keep that backup offline. Consider a durable metal backup if you want long-term resilience against damage.
- Decide on a passphrase. A passphrase creates an extra hidden wallet. Use it only if you can reliably remember or store it separately—loss is permanent.
- Test with a small transaction. Receive a tiny amount, verify the receiving address on the Trezor screen, then confirm receipt in Suite. This confirms everything is working before moving larger balances.
Reminder: No legitimate site or support agent will ever ask for your recovery seed. If any page asks you to type or upload those words, close it immediately and return to
trezor.io/start
.
Security habits to keep
- Always verify receiving and change addresses on the device screen before approving.
- Update firmware and Suite only from the official start flow, and don’t disconnect mid-update.
- Store your seed in multiple, separate physical locations if possible; avoid cloud storage or photos.
- Segment funds: keep small amounts for spending and larger amounts in long-term cold storage.
Troubleshooting — quick fixes
- Device not recognized: Switch USB ports or cable, restart Suite, and ensure OS drivers are permitted.
- Firmware stuck: Follow the bootloader instructions shown on the device. Restart everything if needed and retry from the start page.
- Seed mistakes: Stop and verify each word — don’t guess. Restore only when you have the exact phrase.
